Speedware's History
From humble beginnings...

Speedware Corporation started in 1976 in Montreal, first under the name Info-boutique, later as Infocentre. Until 1980, it operated a computer service bureau and supplied software systems for travel wholesalers. The original programming product, Genasys, was created to support in-house programming, then further developed and marketed as Speedware. This tool was targeted at application programmers using languages such as COBOL, and was designed to speed the development of new application systems.

Until 1990, the Company's products were designed for the HP 3000 computer and its underlying database management system, Image. 1990 saw the first of a new generation of products, designed to run on UNIX and other operating systems and to interface with multiple DBMS, such as Allbase, Sybase and Oracle.

Speedware users have created applications in fields like accounting and financial record-keeping; inventory and order-processing; reservations; personnel management; materials management and process control; planning and project management.

Because Speedware products represent the major component of revenue, the Company name was changed in 1992 from Infocentre to Speedware Corp. With the development of EasyReporter, the acquisition of Media, and the recent indroduction of Speedware Autobahn and the Speedware OASIS family of products, the Company has broadened its focus from productivity tools for the commercial application development market to include business intelligence systems and Web applications.

Speedware made the transition to a public company with an initial public share offering in November 1993.
